Medical Technologist
Analyze patient specimens to monitor patient condition and assist physicians in diagnosis, in a timely and accurate manner according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Serve as a general supervisor in the lab and assist in the training of new employees. Perform, evaluate and report laboratory procedures. Verify that a satisfactory specimen is submitted and request another specimen if needed. Organize workload for efficient and rapid reporting. Ensure safety of lab. Responsible for personal, professional growth and development, and perform special studies when requested. Report to the lab manager. Maintain inventory of supplies, test kits, and reagents and order supplies. Verify that diagnosis justifies testing ordered, or have patient sign ABN prior to collection of a specimen. Advise the providers of tests available a specific diagnosis. Visit nursing home weekly for routine orders and as needed. Initiate testing and transport of specimens to a reference lab on all post exposure employee incidents. Collect legal drug screens and obtain lab requisitions. Maintain and repair analyzers including maintenance. Print QC reports and enter IQAP results. Perform linearity testing every 6 months and proficiency testing each quadrimester. Provide monthly procedure counts to business office. Interpret IQAP and QC reports at the end of the month and initiate corrective action. Handle coordination of DOT drug collections. File paperwork to include insurance and order with diagnosis from provider. Full-time employment with minimum 40 hours per week, plus share in call back with other technologists.
